Our Collaboration with Veenow Wines
From Soil to Sip: Introducing Veenow Wines
At Weston, we are proud to work alongside some of the finest local producers across Staffordshire, Shropshire and Worcestershire – producers who share our commitment to exceptional quality, responsible sourcing, and a more sustainable future for food and drink.
As part of our Garden to Kitchen blog, we will be shining a spotlight on these trusted suppliers, sharing the stories behind the ingredients we use and celebrating what truly great, locally produced food and drink means to the people who create it as well as the people who dine with us.
While our wine list spans regions across the globe, we place just as much value on championing outstanding local winemakers. Each bottle represents dedication, craftsmanship, and a deep respect for both the land and the process – values that align closely with our own approach in the Gardens and in the Kitchen.
In this feature, we’re delighted to introduce our new wine supplier, Veenow, based in Telford, Shropshire. Veenow produces still wines from a single-site vineyard, the largest in the region, spanning 40 acres and home to over 52,000 vines. Their focus on quality at scale, while maintaining a strong connection to place, makes them a standout example of modern English winemaking.
The Veenow Story
Established in 2020 by Robert and Katie, Veenow Vineyard quickly began to take shape. By 2021, their first vines, Pinot Noir and Bacchu, were planted, laying the foundations for what would become a thriving and ambitious project. In 2023, the vineyard expanded further, introducing additional varietals including Chardonnay, Cabernet Noir, and Meunier, broadening both their offering and their expression of the local terroir.
Sustainability sits at the heart of Veenow’s philosophy. The team are deeply committed to caring for the environment, from responsible vineyard management to long-term energy use. Having produced renewable energy for over a decade, their wines are now officially certified as sustainable by WineGB, an achievement that reflects their forward-thinking approach and respect for the land they cultivate.
Why we love Veenow Wines
Martin Page, our General Manager, shares our strong belief that great hospitality begins with great ingredients, sourced responsibly.
He says: “We are absolutely delighted to be working with a local vineyard just 15 miles away, producing wines of outstanding quality. The passion and attention to detail from the Veenow team is evident in every bottle, and we are proud to feature their wines in the Granary Restaurant.”
By partnering with producers like Veenow, we continue to bring together quality, locality, and sustainability, ensuring that every dish and every glass tells a story rooted in care for both people and planet.
Conversations with Veenow
What makes Veenow Wines different from traditional wine brands?
We like to do things slightly differently with a focus around sustainability and regenerative viticulture. We are currently leading the way nationally with regenerative practices across the vineyard. We also aim for quality grapes over yield unlike many others do as this is a key information we brought home from top European vineyards which produces our quality wine.
Is there a particular bottle that best represents the Veenow brand?
It is hard to say as the rose brings about the relaxed warm evening vibe but the Origin white also empathises the elegance and sophistication as well.
What kind of food or occasions pair best with your range?
With Origin, it is dishes such as chicken or fish and the rose is versatile and can be used from an aperitif to pair with a pasta dish, steak to a chocolate torte!
What’s next for Veenow — any new products?
We will release our red wine in September which is a lightly oaked Pinot Noir / Cabernet Noir blend. This year we will harvest pinot noir for a blanc de noirs sparkling, and hopefully a chardonnay for an oaked, malolactic still white wine.
