Step Inside

The House at Weston is home to a world class collection of fine and decorative arts, some of which dates back over 500 years for you to discover. The Formal Gardens that surround the House include the sunken Italian Gardens, the scented Rose Garden and Lady Anne’s Memorial Garden.

The house

From the Front Hall with its legacy to the 3rd Earls love of horses, the Victorian Library furnished with over 3,000 books, the unique Gobelin tapestries to the lofty Dining room which houses one of the most important collections of Van Dyck portraits – the House is open on Sundays, Mondays and Tuesdays throughout the summer months.

Visit the House

The Gardens

Enjoy woodland walks, soaking up the fresh air, taking in breath taking views and strolling through the gardens that surround the House.

We have a wide range of gardens on the estate – Temple Wood (Capability Brown pleasure ground), Shrewsbury Walk (another Capability Brown pleasure ground to the west of the House), The Rose Garden, Lady Anne’s Memorial Garden, Italian Gardens and the Formal Gardens.

The walled garden

The Southern Walled Garden was restored by the Foundation in 2005 and is now home to the Maze and Orchards where heritage varieties of apples are grown. In 2019 we began work on the Northern garden and this is now a thriving vegetable garden with the harvest going straight to the Granary kitchens.

The rose walk

The beautifully scented Rose Walk and Tear Drop Garden are a quiet corner away from the main gardens and offer a fine view of the House with it’s outbuildings and church “like a village itself”.  Yew “buttresses” have been planted along the wall by the path to create compartments for standard roses, lavender and climbing plants.

The formal garden

The Formal Gardens were created in the 1860’s with the garden designer William Brodrick Thomas who laid out stepped terraces providing a stately setting for the House, lifting it up within Capability Brown’s great park.  The Rose Garden was restored in 2018-9 by renowned rosarian Michael Marriot and our Head Gardener Martin Gee.
