Halls Young Artist Competition

1st December - 31st January

Halls Young Artist Competition

The Halls Young Artist competition seeks the next generation of budding creative artists to produce crowd-pleasing and show-stopping artwork.

Hosted in The Rose Paterson Art Gallery, Halls Young Artist competition offers an opportunity for young artists from local schools and further education within a 40 mile radius of Weston Park to develop their talents and to showcase their works in a public art gallery at the very heart of England. Every year we offer a different theme for our young artists to work with and for 2024 the theme is GOLD.

Gold is many things – a sought after precious metal, the chemical element of atomic number 79, which can be used for making jewellery, for decoration and to guarantee the value of currencies. It’s also the anniversary name for a 50th year celebration – something that our competition partners Arts Society Wrekin are celebrating in 2024! So this year, we’ve decided to theme our Halls Young Artist Competition as ‘gold’ in their honour.

Whether you decide to commemorate a 50th anniversary of your own, create fabulous jewellery or gilded items, or simply create a two-dimensional work that uses gold in its colouring, the choice is yours! We’re keen to fill the Rose Paterson Art Gallery with a gilded feast of artistic talent that celebrates the creativity of the region’s young artists and so we’re inviting applications for this year’s Halls Young Artist Competition. Visitors to the Art Gallery tell us how much they look forward to the Competition each year and so we hope that you’ll also enjoy using your imagination to create work for the competition.

All shortlisted entries are exhibited in The Rose Paterson Art Gallery during December 2024 and January 2025.

Weston Park is grateful to Halls Fine Art and to Arts Society Wrekin for their generous support of the competition and we’re grateful to every child and every school that participates in this exciting competition!
