Our Curator & Head of Learning Gareth Williams will create an exclusive tour of the great houses of the heart of England. Each itinerary is tailored to the particular interests of your group and features visits to highly private houses.
Gareth’s published works on art and architecture include The Country Houses of Shropshire (2021) and Weston Park: The House, The Families and The Influence (2022) and is widely regarded as an authority on the English country house.
Previous tours have focused on famous names such as Charles Darwin or Abraham Darby, whilst others have taken a contextual view of Capability Brown and Thomas Chippendale. The emphasis on the bespoke, to craft an informative and memorable cultural tour for guests with private visits to houses and museums where the welcome to our groups is personally given by the owners or custodian.
Weston Park is ideally located as a base for exploring not only the grandest of British heritage (Chatsworth 1.5 hours; Powis Castle 1 hour; Chester 1 hours; Shrewsbury 35 minutes; Warwick 1.5 hours; Manchester 1.5 hours; Birmingham 40 minutes) but also offers an ideal opportunity for exploring the Welsh Marches and their remarkable private houses. Key museums, such as the UNESCO World Heritage site of the Ironbridge Gorge’s museums and the Wedgwood Museum are also within less than an hour’s drive.
